Dedicated to the memory of Margaret Smith

This site is a tribute to Margaret Smith. She is much loved and will always be remembered.

A celebration of Margaret Smith's life

Margaret Kitty Smith (née Campey) passed away peacefully on Wednesday 8th January 2025 at Eliot House Nursing Home, Morton, aged 94 years. Loving and much loved mum to Madeleine and Jeannette. A wonderful loving and much loved nan to Jane, Liz, Helen, Caitlin and Vikki. Loving ‘Morenan’ (great grandmother) to Sophie and Ben, Mabel, Arlo and Elsie, Martha and Jake, Evie, Tabitha and Stanley, Cosette and Lyra. Friend to many, kind, inspiring and generous, she will be hugely missed. Margaret was a gifted cook, and from 1972 to retirement was a much-loved employee of the Meynell family at The Shooting Lodge, Laughton. On retirement she created an incredible garden and home at Mantree Cross Cottage on the Meynell estate. A home that she treasured and loved, where she welcomed family and dear friends with amazing food, ideas and her infectious laughter. Her knowledge of her beloved roses was legendary. Due to ill health in later life, Margaret was cared for initially at home by a team of lovely carers. Eventually moving to Eliot House Nursing Home, Gainsborough, to whom we send our very grateful thanks to the incredible, caring, dedicated staff. As a family we very much appreciated their professionalism and consistent support to mum. She leaves behind a legacy of gentle kindness, and devotion to family that will continue to inspire. The funeral service will take place at All Saint's Church Laughton on Monday 10th February 2025 at 12 noon followed by committal at Lea Fields Crematorium.
